Edward M. Kennedy Institute Statement on the Passing of Senator Howard Baker

The following statement was released today by President of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute Board of Directors, Victoria Reggie Kennedy, on the passing of Senator Howard Baker (R-TN):

“Today, we mourn the passing of Howard Baker–a great legislator and a great man. My husband Ted worked very closely with Senator Baker over the years, on issues ranging from taxes to voting rights. A true champion for the people of Tennessee, the ‘great conciliator,’ was always looking for ways to find common ground in Congress.

"A veteran of World War II, a Senator and a former White House Chief of Staff, Baker served his country with distinction in many different ways. I extend love and deepest sympathy to his dear wife Nancy and to their entire family.”
