College Programs
College students take on the role of a U.S. Senator or Representative during the Institute’s immersive college programs. They’ll deepen their understanding of civic life as they work to represent their constituents, deliberate with colleagues, and craft legislation. The Institute’s program offerings can support a range of college disciplines, including history, political science, social issues, public policy, and health studies.
Conference Committee
In this 2-hour simulation developed and facilitated for a college audience, students take on the role of a member of the House or Senate and engage in a Conference Committee, the process of reconciling bills from the two chambers of Congress. As students consider issues of policy, they also learn fundamental concepts of successful negotiation aimed at identifying areas of common interest and expanding beneficial outcomes. In the first installment of Conference Committee, students grapple with the Agriculture Act of 2014 (the “Farm Bill”) and the issues of farm subsidies and food assistance programs.
Conference Committee can be scheduled for groups of 20-32 participants and is $15 per participant. To schedule a program, please complete our School and Group Visit Request Form. For more information, please contact studentgroups@emkinstitute.org.
