Head Writer of “The Daily Show” to Discuss Intersection of News and Comedy at the Institute on Monday

In a conversation moderated by Sopan Deb of the The New York Times, Zhubin Parang will discuss how “The Daily Show” is adapting and responding to the unprecedented political and media climate the 2016 presidential election ignited.

BOSTON - On Monday, November 20 at 6:30 p.m. ET, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate will welcome Zhubin Parang, head writer at “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.” In a conversation moderated by The New York Times’s culture reporter Sopan Deb, Parang will discuss the editorial decisions “The Daily Show” team faces in creating content for their show, and explore the role journalists and comedians play in sustaining a healthy political dialogue.

Over the course of the year, the Getting to the Point series convenes individuals with diverse perspectives to discuss current issues and challenges facing the nation. The series takes on various formats – from town halls to keynote lectures and panel discussions – and showcases speakers from all walks of life. Previous events have included discussions with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Georgia Congressman John Lewis, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, MSNBC’s Katy Tur, 19th U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, author Junot Diaz, and others.
