Edward M. Kennedy Institute Launches 2015 Young Leaders Network
Program launches with discussion featuring former WH Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten & Current WH Senate Liaison Marty Paone
BOSTON – Today, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute launched the 2015 Young Leaders Network program series. Working with New York University’s Brademas Center, UMass Boston and others, the Young Leaders Network partners with Congressional Centers from across the country to provide opportunities for young people through a regular summer event series in Washington, D.C. The summer luncheon series offers students interning in Congressional Centers and Congressional Offices the opportunity to meet their peers and have thought-provoking discussions with officials, staff and policy experts.
Joshua Bolten, Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush and Marty Paone, Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs and Senate Liaison kicked off the first in a series of 2015 Young Leaders Network events in Washington, D.C. today with a discussion titled ‘Working Across Pennsylvania Avenue: The White House and Congress.’
“The Young Leaders Network is a wonderful opportunity for students to network with peers and learn from those working at the highest levels of government, media and politics,” said Dr. Jean MacCormack, President of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute. “We’re honored that Joshua Bolten and Marty Paone are kicking off our first of many great events for the summer.”
Over the past two years with NYU’s Brademas Center for the study of Congress, the EMK Institute has partnered with UMass Boston and several Congressional Centers including; The Dodd Center, the Culver Center, the Rudman Center, the Nethercutt Foundation and others.
Upcoming discussions this summer will cover a variety of topics including; National Security, Understanding the Iowa Caucus, and Working in the House. The series culminates in a three-day retreat at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute in Boston, where YLN students and House and Senate Office interns will join together for a series of workshops, panel discussions and Senate Immersion Module simulations.
“We are only in the second year of what we hope will be an exciting annual program series,” said Dr. MacCormack. “At a time with historically low participation in our democracy I can’t think of a better time to carry on Sen. Kennedy’s mission of inspiring young leaders to continue on a path of civic engagement.”
