Edward M. Kennedy Institute To Recognize Winners of Scholarship and Writing Contest, Host Virtual 2020 Museum of African American History Stone Book Award Event

BOSTON – On Thursday, October 15, at 6:30 p.m., the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate will partner with the Museum of African American History (MAAH) and the James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Foundation for the annual MAAH Stone Book Award program that honors the finalists for notable literature on important topics within the field of African American history and culture. Now in its third year, the Award is an annual prize that encourages scholarship and writing in African American literature by awarding a $25,000 prize and two $5,000 finalist prizes for exceptional adult non-fiction books focusing on the subject.

The award event, which normally takes place in the historic African Meeting House on Beacon Hill, will be hosted by GBH’s Callie Crossley and will feature interviews with the Award winners as well as appearances by the dynamic panel of jurors. This year’s winner and finalists include Jelani M. Favors, Associate Professor of History at Clayton State University; Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, Assistant Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University; and Tiffany Lethabo King. Assistant Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Georgia State University.
