Former Majority Leaders Lott, Daschle discuss how to overcome broken politics in Washington with Mike Barnicle

Former Majority Leaders Trent Lott and Tom Daschle discuss reaching across the aisle to make the Senate work, and their soon-to-be released book Crisis Point.

BOSTON – On Thursday, January 21st, former Senate Majority Leaders Trent Lott (R-MS) and Tom Daschle (D-SD) will come together at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for a discussion on their recent book Crisis Point, and in the words of Senators Lott and Daschle – “why we must, and how we can, overcome our broken politics in Washington and across America.” The EMK Institute’s Across the Aisle series brings together government leaders from different political parties to discuss how to find common ground on issues of both local and national importance.

This is the first Across the Aisle event of the New Year. Previous programs have included discussions with Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Mike Lee (R-UT), Governor Charlie Baker (R-MA) and Senator Ed Markey (D-MA), as well as Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), John Cornyn (R-TX), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) on issues from the opioid epidemic to criminal justice reform.

The Institute’s Across the Aisle series brings together government leaders with disparate ideologies and from different political parties who are collaborating on a common cause. In a moderated discussion, Across the Aisle highlights the type of civil discourse, negotiation, collaboration, and leadership that leads to solutions for pressing problems.
