Inaugural Leonore Annenberg Institute for Civics Award

The Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania awarded the Edward M. Kennedy Institute the first-ever Leonore Annenberg Institute for Civics Award to the Institute in 2019 to develop a program named “Civil Conversations,” designed to help 8th through 12th grade teachers develop the skills necessary to lead productive classroom discussions on difficult public policy issues. 2019 Boston Business Journal’s Power 50

The Boston Business Journal’s 2019 Power 50 list includes people who not only are making an impact on Boston’s economy and business community, but are doing so while earning the respect of their peers. Institute co-founder and board president Victoria Reggie Kennedy, also senior counsel at the law firm Greenberg Traurig, was named to this prestigious list in 2019. The Boston Business Journal focused on those who are respectable leaders, admired by their coworkers and industry peers and looked for decency in those who have been driving change in the community. 2018 New England Museum Association Excellence Award


Senior exhibit and content developer Jan Crocker was announced as a recipient of the New England Museum Association’s Excellence Award which is given in recognition of an individual’s demonstrated passion for improving New England’s museum community and for being an exemplary team member and mentor for peers. 2017 NECO Ellis Island Medal of Honor Recipient

Institute Co-founder and President of the Board Victoria Reggie Kennedy was named a 2017 NECO Ellis Island Medal of Honor Recipient by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations. The medal recognizes individuals who have made it their mission to share with those less fortunate their wealth of knowledge, indomitable courage, boundless compassion, unique talents and selfless generosity; all while maintaining the traditions of their ethnic heritage as they uphold the ideals and spirit of America.

2017 Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement


The Edward M. Kennedy Institute was honored with a 2017 Thea Award from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA). The Institute’s Senate Immersion Module (SIM) program was selected as an Outstanding Achievement in Connected Immersion in Education category. The Thea Awards were created by the TEA to help realize a key mission of the association: bringing recognition to achievement, talent and personal excellence within the themed entertainment industry.

2017 UMass Dartmouth Leduc Center Community Member Civic Leadership Award

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Leduc Center for Civic Engagement recognized Dr. Jean MacCormack, former president of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute, with the Community Member Civic Leadership Award. The Award recognizes community members who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to civic engagement, and to advancing the communities of the South Coast and the region.

2016 BGTW Merit Award

The Edward M. Kennedy Institute received a Merit Award in the Wider World Category from the British Guild of Travel Writers (BGTW) at their 2016 Annual Tourism Awards. This honor places the Institute among the top five new tourism projects visited by BGTW members in the Wider World category (outside of the UK and Ireland).

2016 Interaction Award – Best in Category: Connecting

The Connecting category of the international Interaction Awards focuses on facilitating communication between people and communities. The combination of technology and learning through participation earned the Edward M. Kennedy Institute this recognition. The Interaction Awards are an initiative of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA), a global community of over 100,000 individuals worldwide dedicated to the professional practice of Interaction Design. The Edward M. Kennedy Institute was recognized with a prestigious 2016 Core77 Design Award for the content and user interface design of its experiential installations.
