Kennedy Institute to host screening, discussion on award-winning documentary “The Peacemaker”
Subject and director of film will join for audience conversation
BOSTON - On Thursday, February 7, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate will host a screening of “The Peacemaker” and subsequent discussion of the award-winning film which chronicles the work of Padraig O’Malley, University of Massachusetts Boston John Joseph Moakley Distinguished Professor of Peace and Reconciliation. A Critics’ Pick by The New York Times, the documentary takes viewers from O’Malley’s life in Cambridge, Massachusetts to dangerous crisis zones all over the globe – from Northern Ireland to Kosovo, Nigeria to Iraq – as he works a peacemaking model based on his own recovery from addiction. A conversation following the film will include Professor O’Malley and film director James Demo.
Along with the Institute, this program is sponsored by the University of Massachusetts Boston John W. McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies; Department of Conflict Resolution, Global Governance, and Human Security; John Moakley Chair of Peace and Reconciliation; Department of Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies – Human Rights Minor; and Cinema Studies Program. Admission is free, though registration is required for all attendees.
