Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to Speak at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute

Senator McConnell will be the inaugural speaker at the Institute's first public program, Getting to the Point

BOSTON – April 10, 2015 - Today the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate is excited to announce that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will be featured in the Institute’s first public program on May 10th.

Senator McConnell’s appearance will launch the Getting to the Point series, a public program that aims to create dialogue around the critical issues facing our state, nation and the world. The series will be adapted to a variety of formats – from keynote lectures and panel discussions to moderated discussions and town hall meetings. Getting to the Point will showcase speakers from all walks of life, from Members of Congress and officials from every level of government to celebrities and corporate and community leaders.

“The Edward M. Kennedy Institute is dedicated to engaging the public in thought-provoking, bipartisan discussions,” said Institute President Jean MacCormack. “We are honored to welcome the Senate Majority Leader to the Institute for our very first public program.”

The Edward M. Kennedy Institute, which opened to the public on March 31st, is dedicated to educating the public about the important role of the Senate in our government, encouraging participatory democracy, invigorating civil discourse, and inspiring the next generation of citizen and leaders to engage in the civic life of their communities.

Getting to the Point is the first in a series of public programs that the Edward M. Kennedy Institute will launch over the following months. This event will be hosted at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute on Columbia Point in Dorchester, and tickets will be available to the public. More information about the Institute’s upcoming public programs can be found at the Institute’s website, www.emkinstitute.org.
