Recent U.S Ambassador to Britain, Louis Susman, Joins Edward M. Kennedy Institute Board

Boston, MA– The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate (the EMK Institute) is proud to announce, Louis B. Susman as a new member of the EMK Institute Board of Directors. The EMK Institute is a one of a kind educational organization that will provide in-depth educational programs and exhibits about our government, and demonstrate how the U.S. Senate helps to shape public policy.

“We welcome Ambassador Susman to our leadership team. He will bring a unique international perspective and will be instrumental in helping us to develop our programming,” said Lee Fentress, Chair of the Board of Directors. “This is a very exciting day for the Institute.”

In 2009, Ambassador Susman was sworn in by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as the United States Ambassador to the Court of St. James. Prior to being named Ambassador, Susman was the managing director and vice chairman of Citigroup Corporate and Investment Banking. He also served as a member of the Citigroup International Advisory Board. Susman practiced law for 27 years and was a senior partner at the St. Louis-based law firm of Thompson & Mitchell, where his practice focused on mergers and acquisitions and general corporate law. Susman was national finance chairman for John Kerry’s presidential campaign in 2004, and was a senior advisor to President Obama during his 2008 presidential campaign.

“It is a privilege to be joining the EMK Institute board. The Institute will deepen our understanding as Americans about our own great country and present a unique platform for engaging with friends and partners across the globe, ” said Susman.

Most recently, Susman was named as non-Executive chairman to DJE Holdings, parent company of Edelman and Zeno Group. He will provide strategic counsel to Richard Edelman and the global senior leadership team and focus on global business development.

In March, the EMK Institute announced several other new board members including the following: Senate Majority Leaders, U.S. Senator Tom Daschle (D-South Dakota), U.S. Senator Trent Lott (R-Mississippi), former Suffolk County District Attorney and Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Northeastern University, Ralph Martin; and Stephanie Cutter, a former senior White House aide and senior advisor to Senator Kennedy.
