Edward M. Kennedy Institute offers free admission to furloughed government workers

BOSTON – The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate is offering free admission to federal government workers who are furloughed in the partial government shutdown.

Furloughed federal employees need only show their badge or federal identification for entry in to the Institute which is located on the University of Massachusetts Boston campus on Morrissey Boulevard.

“These are extremely difficult times for public servants who are trying to take care of their families and meet financial obligations,” said Mary K. Grant, Ph.D., president of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute. “We hope a visit to the Institute offers a brief respite from these stresses and provides an optimistic window into how the United States government has successfully functioned and will again.“

The Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate is an independent nonprofit organization in Boston envisioned by the late Senator Ted Kennedy; it is dedicated to educating the public about the important role of the Senate in government, encouraging civic participation, and invigorating civil discourse. Through exhibits, interactive educational offerings, and topical programs, the Institute engages students and visitors in a conversation about the essential role each person plays in our democracy and in our society.

The Institute is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., with daily live programs and exhibits.
