Kennedy Institute receives support from Highland Street Foundation to offer a Free Fun Friday on July 26

Free day of activities and programs for children and adults made possible by the Highland Street Foundation

BOSTON – On Friday, July 26, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate will provide a full day of activities, exhibits, and programs all at no cost to visitors. This effort is made possible through the generosity of the Highland Street Foundation in conjunction with its Free Fun Fridays summer program. In 2019, 100 cultural institutions across Massachusetts will participate. The full schedule of 2019 Free Fun Fridays is available online.

When visiting the Institute any day of the year, guests are invited to become a senator for a day, to enjoy unique exhibits, hands-on activities, and live programs that bring democracy and civics to life. At the center of the Institute is a full-scale replica of the United States Senate Chamber where programs take place. On Friday, July 26, free activities at the Kennedy Institute will include:

• Digital exhibits about how the U.S. government works
• Historical programs on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote
• Contemporary programs about legislation in the U.S. Senate
• Physical exhibits including “A Seat at the Table” and the “Senate Staff Office”
• Hands-on art activities
• A special Free Fun Friday photo booth

“It is with much excitement that we look forward to our 2019 Free Fun Friday,” said Institute president Mary K. Grant, Ph.D. “The Institute team has so much fun putting this day together and welcoming people from all over the state and region to enjoy being a senator for a day. We are grateful to have the support of the Highland Street Foundation and to be counted among the Commonwealth’s treasured cultural institutions.”

Located on the University of Massachusetts Boston campus in Dorchester, next to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, the Kennedy Institute will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on July 26, 2019. Free parking is available.
