Edward M. Kennedy Institute Hosts Military Officials from around the Globe

(BOSTON) – On November 13, 2014, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate (the Institute) hosted international military officials and staff members from the National Defense University (NDU) to participate in the Institute’s Senate Immersion Module (SIM) program. During the program the participants took on the roles of Senators and debated legislation in a full-scale representation of the U.S. Senate chamber.

Over 60 military officials and NDU staff members participated in the Institute’s program with a focus on the important issue of immigration policy.

“We were honored to host military officials from around the world here at the Kennedy Institute which helped them learn more about the U.S. Senate’s unique role in our democracy,” said Dr. Jean F. MacCormack, the Institute’s president. “By taking on the roles of U.S. Senators and by debating immigration issues, we hope our guests came away with a better understanding of how the American system of government works. And I invite the public to join us for this unique opportunity when we open our doors in March 2015.”

The National Defense University brings international military officials to the United States each year for an immersion experience that introduces them to American history, government, and culture. This year’s group featured military officials from more than 40 different countries.

The Institute will open to the general public on March 31st, 2015. Teachers who are interested in scheduling a SIM experience for their classroom should email simschedule@emkinstitute.org.
